Report About Apes


These types of animals are amazing to learn about like did you know that some apes use weapons to protect themselves! (This is why I made a report about them.)

All apes are omnivores although only 3% of their diet are small insects and termites. Then 17% of their diet are leaves, did you know that apes can eat over 100 types of leaves which must mean they aren’t that fussy! Finally a huge 80% of an ape’s diet is fruit like berries and sometimes bananas.

Apes have amazing adaptations to stay alive, a few of those adaptations come from their behaviour. One of those behavioural adaptations are making weapons. This is an amazing adaptation to have, not many species of animals are this advanced. Usually apes make their weapons out of sticks or evens stones! The use of these weapons are for either hunting or to protect themselves from predators. Another thing apes do is that they make nests to keep warm and stay hidden. This is also a great place to gather food and keep it hidden.

The other type of adaptation is a structural adaptation which is a physical feature you can see. Apes have many of these, here is a list of structural adaptations:

Fingernails not claws, binocular vision (both eyes can focus on one object), whiskers on it’s chin and finally no hair on the palms and the bottom of their feet.

Apes do very similar things to what humans do, like did you know that apes have a sense of humour? So they can laugh and can even do something funny to make something else laugh. Apes can also be tickled which is something most humans have as well. Another fun fact is that Chimpanzees have the exact same blood type as some humans!

In conclusion, I think apes are the most intelligent species of animals in the world except for humans. Unfortunately some types of apes are endangered and could be extinct in less than 100 years! So please, just do one little thing to stop these amazing creatures from becoming extinct.

Describe It - Camp Experiences

Learning goals:

• To ‘Show, Don’t Tell’ the reader by painting a picture with words.
• A variety of sentence starters
• A variety of sentence lengths
• Edit and rework
• Effective peer checking and feedback

As the parent helper puts the uncomfortable harness on a shaky body, you can hear the wind blowing the tall and strong trees. Everyone felt anxious about what could happen like if a tree snaps or if the rope rips and someone falls down to their death. Then the instructor called someone up. Their legs were so shaky they couldn't even walk properly. Then he told the person to climb up a ladder, you could tell that it was hard for them because they were really nervous.


Then the instructor told the tired children to run to level 2, so they did. As they ran, you could tell they were huffing and puffing. Then when they had ran to the correct distance, there was a snap! The person was screaming the whole time, because they were going extremely fast.


Student Reflection:
In my writing, my goal is to use different sentence types - Simple Compound and complex.
I did show this goal here because I put in two complex sentences and I put in quite a few compound sentences.

In my writing, one of my goals is to use different sentence beginnings and lengths.
I did not show this goal here because I used the word then at the start of a lot of sentences.

My next step is to support main ideas with details that fit.

Teacher Comment: Boston, you are able to idenitfy and use a variety of sentence types in your writing. Sometimes, depending on the type of writing you are doing, it is okay to repeat sentence starters for impact. However, be mindful if you are doing this often as in longer stories, it can disengage the reader.

• Why is it important to plan before you write? It is important to plan before you write because you don't have to think

that much because all the ideas are already written down. Also it is really good to plan because you might forget an

idea so you can just look at the plan and the idea you forgot would be there.

 

• What is the purpose of a topic sentence? The purpose of a topic sentence is so the reader has an idea of what you are

going to write about. Also it is to draw the reader in so they read the whole piece of writing.

• What is your favourite part of your review?Why? My favourite part of  the review was probably the start because it has a lot of detail and it hooks the reader in. Another reason why I like the start is because it is a compound sentence which is one of the sentences we are working on.

• What are at least three things a review can have?

1. Background information like where they are from etc

2. What event the athlete did and what place they came

Dear grizzly bear.

why do you have such big claws? 
I have huge claws so I can catch fish and other animals. Their also sharp to Pierce into my prey's skin.

How do you catch fish in the river?
Well that is a good question. The way I catch fish is that I lean over a waterfall and try to catch the fish flying in mid air from the waterfall. My favourite type of fish is Salmon.

First Two Activities At Camp

It was day two at camp and I was expecting an entertaining one.For breakfast I had peaches and  yogurt.The teachers said to have a huge breakfast because we were going to have a fun but tiring day. They also said that we are doing these activities for the day. The first activity we did was a Burma trail, I was terrified but when I nearly finished it I wanted to do it again. While I was doing the Burma trail, I got a Putere Positive because I was helping Troy when he was blind folded. The second activity was Recreation. For recreation time, I went on a Monorail that the camp had, it was cool because you could see Lyttelton Harbour and at the same time you would going extremely fast. The other thing I did was Rugby Pool. Rugby Pool is when you have three red balls and a white one, your opponent has the same. Then you get your white ball and roll it and knock off all three balls that the other person has. I am really lucky because I have got three more activities to go.
