To get a ‘Great Achievement” award, Rob needs to swim 94 lengths of the swimming pool. If he has already swum 69 lengths,
how many more lengths of the swimming pool does he need to swim to get his award?

Strategy One is called tidy number.
94 - 4=90 90-20=70 70-1=69 0+4+20+1=25                                    Answer: 25

Strategy Two is called Place Value.                                                     Answer:25

94-60=34
34-9=25

A netball team enters a tournament. The tournament costs $16 per person. If there are 9 people in the team, how much will the
team pay in total?

Strategy One is called Place Value.                                                   Answer: $144

9x10=90
9x6=54
90+54=144

Strategy Two is called Tidy number.                                                  Answer: $144

16x10=160
160-16=144

The KNOWLEDGE I needed to solve this problem included using times tables that has 10 in the equation.

Ye Lin is helping clean up her local beach. She and her classmates collect 24 bags of rubbish in total. 8 of the bags are filled
with only plastic. What fraction of the total number of filled bags is this?

Strategy One is called prior knowledge.                                                    Answer: 1/3

Strategy Two is called using division.                                                   Answer: 1/3

What are the three things that Constable Ken Taught about where we can ride our bikes? (think - place and time)

1. Constable Ken said that Sovereign palms is good because the roads are wide and there aren't as many people on the roads. 

2. Constable Ken told us that we have to ride our bike on the left side like all the other cars.

3. He also said that we have to ride in the bike lane so we don't run over any people and also so you don't
crash into a car that is pulling out of the driveway.

Name three important things Constable Ken taught us about how to ride our bikes? (think - eyes and head)

1. Firstly we have to find any hazards in the area that we are bike riding.

2. The second thing we learnt was when we get on the bike, we have to get on it on the left side so a car doesn't run us over.

3. The last thing we learnt is that we always have to use our back brakes because if you use the front brakes and if your going at a fast speed, you could face plant into the ground.

What did you enjoy the most about your Cycle Safe lesson? Why?

I liked riding around the field because it was relaxing. I also liked using both brakes at the same time because you had to pedal fast then stop suddenly.

1. How did your athletics practices go? (At least 3 events)

For discus I did well because I didn't hold on to it and all the throws at practice counted. When we practiced high jump, I think I did well because I did the scissor jump. The third event we did was shot put, I think I did good because I didn't just use my arms, I used my legs as well.

2.  In what event did you most improve your technique? How?

Shot put was probably the event that I improved the most on because I used my legs as well as my arms, but I also improved a lot on high Jump by being more springy and more positive.

3. What value did you show on Friday at Athletics most? How?

I showed Brave because although I'm not that good at sprints, long jump and High jump, I still kept trying and
trying.

4. Who else did you notice showing one of our school values (they could be from another class or syndicate)? How?

Ethan showed Respect because when he won his events, he didn't give people a hard time. Instead he cheered on
other people even if they failed.

BASKETBALL TOWER STEM CHALLENGE

What was the hardest part of this challenge for you? Why?

The hardest part of the challenge was agreeing with an idea because we thought of different ideas.Another hard part about the challenge was when we had to put tape around the tower to make it tight.

What worked really well in this challenge for you ? Why?

Something that worked really well in the challenge was that the tape was sticky. Also the rolled paper was really good because it held the weight of the basketball.

What value did you mostly have to show in this challenge and why?

I showed Brave because I had never done this challenge before. I also showed Create because I tried my best to create a tower made of paper and tape.

What question do you now have because of this challenge?

How much weight can paper hold?

Cross Country Reflection

1. How did your Cross Country training go?

I went great  because I improved by going at my own pace, and when Milan over lapped me I didn't speed up to over take him, although he was one meter in front of me, and I didn't get mad when it happened. I
was going at my own pace trying to do the best I could.

2.  Did you improve your lap number? Why? Why not?

Yes I improved my lap number because I didn't worry about anybody else, like when Milan rolled his ankle when
he was running. Also, I didn't worry about Holy G when she was tying her shoe laces and it didn't look like she needed help.

3. What value did you show on Friday at Cross Country? How?

I showed brave because I don't really run but I still gave it a go, like when I practised at morning tea with Milan,
Logan and Eli to get better and keep my confidence up. I also did some swimming to keep my fitness
up as well.

4. Who else did you notice showing one of our school values (they could be from another class or syndicate)? How?

Sam showed connect because he was cheering on everyone even if he wasn't friends with them, and always gave
them a positive comment. Also Kaden Wilson showed connect because he was pushing me to my limits to go faster.

What was the strategy/knowledge that you were learning?

The strategy/knowledge I used was adding and subtracting in place value.

How well did you use the strategy/knowledge? Give an example

I used the strategy well because I knew what number to break up. For example, the question is
963+473=, you break the lowest number which is 473.

What challenges/ mistakes helped you with this new strategy/knowledge?

The challenge/mistake I made was when I broke up the bigger number so it was harder to answer
the question.

This helped me because now I know to break up the lower number which is easier.
